San Diego State University’s College of Education prepares effective professionals for a variety of service delivery and leadership roles in schools, post-secondary institutions, social service agencies, and vocational rehabilitation organizations. The College’s graduates include many local, state, and national teachers of the year; several school district superintendents and community college presidents; and the most diverse array of counselors, therapists, and school psychologists produced by any university in the nation. The College’s successes prompt reason for pride, but also provoke a redoubling of efforts so that academic programs, research, and service to the community generate even greater impact. U.S. News and World Report’s 2016 ratings of Schools of Education ranked SDSU’s College of Education #1 in San Diego County, #51 among public universities nationwide, and #69 among all universities in the United States.
The programs provide a rich mix of classroom and field-based experiences that build the capacity of candidates to make a positive difference in the lives of diverse children, youth, adults, and families. The current students are among the College’s brightest ever, evidencing both outstanding academic potential and a deep commitment to promote equity and excellence. Through cutting-edge research and scholarship, innovative programs, and community-based service, the faculty and staff engage in strategic partnerships with the field of practice to improve client outcomes, increase institutional effectiveness, and promote social justice.
