CSU Monterey Bay MSTI

CSU Monterey Bay provides its students and community members who would like to prepare to become math and/or science teachers with assistance in becoming subject-matter qualified. Upon making the decision to become a math or science teacher each student is assigned an academic advisor to assure the successful transition from undergraduate status to student and/or intern.

The Teacher Education Department at CSUMB offers workshops and classes in preparation for the CSET (California Standardized Examination for Teachers) and CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test.) These preparatory courses are held several times per year, in addition to summer institutes and follow up activities, for pre-service interns and new teachers who are interested in a career in teaching.

Undergraduates who are also prospective teachers have access to a service learning course in the Mathematics major, which includes service to K-12 science students in public school classrooms. In addition, CSUMB has created a Math Teacher Education Club with a faculty advisor to be available to members and to plan activities that link the CSUMB Math Department students with counterparts in the regional community.
