CSU East Bay MSTI

The Math and Science Initiative at CSU East Bay involves a variety of programs aimed at recruiting and training future math and science teachers from a diverse pool including community college students, CSUEB undergraduates, and career changers. These programs include

Future Math and Science Teachers Scholar Program
This program is for undergraduates at CSUEB and regional community college students. Quarterly workshops are held to discuss teaching math and science. Junior and Seniors at CSUEB receive scholarships. Seniors also participate in a three-quarter seminar series around early teaching experiences.

Affiliate Scholars
This program offers students a chance to observe and assist in a local K-12 math or science classroom. Students are paid for participating. The program is open to both CSUEB students and select community college students who are interested in exploring a teaching career in math and science.

Foundational Level Math and Foundational Level Science Certificate Programs
These programs offer comprehensive preparation in math or science for individuals interested in teaching math or science at the K-8 level. Completion of the Foundational Level Math Certificate Program satisfies the CCTC subject matter competency requirement (i.e. CSET waiver). Financial support is available for both programs.
