Recruitment Strategies

This page includes a repository of strategies, programs, and reports related to the recruitment of teachers, something we also think about as activating the desire within many students to serve their communities in a meaningful way, with a special emphasis on recruiting for diversity. Specific characteristics of future teachers are listed when the resource specifically targets those populations. Resources can be filtered by population and/or type of resource.

Generally, these resources are available at no cost or through a subscription carried by CSU campus libraries.

  • Class Presentations on Science Teaching Pathways

    Class presentations made on science teaching pathways made by Education faculty, credential office staff, and current Science credential candidates to current CI Science students.

  • Club Mentors

    Hired liberal studies students to become club mentors to visit, engage, and assist future teacher clubs in high schools and community college students interested in teaching. They receive training from Educators Rising This link will take you to an external website in a new tab..

  • Cohort Model (Project Math)

    The cohort model implemented by Project MATH is a nationally recognized program to develop future secondary math teachers.

  • College Applications Follow-up

    ​Prospect development campaign identified applicants who showed interest in teaching on their college applications. Prospects were contacted by phone and email.

  • College Social

    CSULA invites students, faculty, staff, and community partners to "socials" where the Dean welcomes them.  We try to build morale and then eventually have the students network. We also use this time to recruit students.

  • Create Space or a Center for Future Teachers

    Provide physical space for future teachers to study, collaborate, network, and get advising from faculty and staff. Could be an advising center as well so staff would be there to provide support and manage the space.​

  • Credential Program Admission Workshops
