Recruitment Strategies

This page includes a repository of strategies, programs, and reports related to the recruitment of teachers, something we also think about as activating the desire within many students to serve their communities in a meaningful way, with a special emphasis on recruiting for diversity. Specific characteristics of future teachers are listed when the resource specifically targets those populations. Resources can be filtered by population and/or type of resource.

Generally, these resources are available at no cost or through a subscription carried by CSU campus libraries.

  • CSET Exam Preparation Programs

    We offer ​CSET exam preparation programs for career changers, credential students, and other undergraduate candidates.

  • CSET I and II Content Institutes

    ​For the past ten years we have offered 40-hour CSET I and II content institutes to support teachers in obtaining their Foundational Level Credential.​

  • Development of a Recruitment Pipeline

    As part of a comprehensive teacher recruitment strategy, CSUSM has established a Teacher Recruitment Committee that is charged with recommending short term and long-term recruitment goals. This committee is now a standing Committee of the School of Education governance structure.

  • Early Teaching Experiences in Mathematics and Science Program

  • Educate Campus Faculty and Staff About Profession

  • Education Career Fair

    Host a career fair where you invite a variety of education-based organizations to hire students into the field of education. Include multiple school districts to promote vacant teaching positions, paraprofessional positions, and volunteer opportunities.
